Definition
Diabetic retinopathy is a diabetes-related eye disease that occurs when high blood sugar damages the blood vessels in the retina (the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye). It is one of the leading causes of vision loss and blindness in people with diabetes.
Types/Stages
- Non-Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (NPDR)
- Early stage of the disease.
- Retinal blood vessels weaken, swell, and leak fluid or blood into the retina.
- Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR)
